Human beings... I forgot how fragile their lives can be.

And yet... Hmm.

[He breathes out a sigh, and carefully leans back on the old roof. It lets out a soft creak of metal.]

...

Now that I take a good look at them, even the stars are all wrong.

Hm.

[He scooted over to one side a little, to give Kantarou enough space to sit down next to him.]

All right. I wouldn't mind having a drink about now.

[He sat down next to Haruka enjoying himself to an extent. He handed the tengu a plastic cup that had seen better days and then opened the bottle he was holding. It was the sake that Mokona had left him, and though he had been saving it, he figured this was as good a time as any. A pity it was so soon.]

You have to move on.

[He eyed the plastic cup warily after taking it, part of him wishing that he thought of bringing his chawan up here with him rather than leaving it down in the classroom. Once his cup was filled enough, he pulled it up to his lips and took a sip.

Once finished, Haruka pulled it away slowly, focusing his eyes on the world below. It seemed so dark and empty.]

Don't misunderstand me.

So, you're just hanging out up here because you feel like it?

[He hadn't thought to bring Haruka's chawan. But then, he had originally wanted the other to come back.]

That's a part of it.

Being up here makes me feel like I have the space I need to think clearly.

Am I suffocating?

[That caused Haruka to turn and look at Kantarou, noting the seriousness in his expression. Such a question... He didn't expect it, nor did he know how to answer it.]

I don't know...

[He didn't say anything for a moment. He just thought about what was said. This place was just so hard on him, and recently it had been even harder than usual.]

I'm only worried about you....

[He looked down into that cup, watching the clear sake swirl with the light tip of the fingers holding onto it. Haruka thought, and then he closed his eyes.]

I don't want to come to rely on you too much...

[Kantarou looked over to Haruka not touching his sake yet.]

You're not the one relying.

[Haruka opened his eyes slowly.]

Human beings are fragile... Their bodies are so much weaker and prone to injury and sickness... With or without a chip placed inside of them.

And yet I'm still... coming to rely on them and others.

[He looks back at Kantarou, with an almost saddened expression on his face.]

Don't speak for me.

I'm not speaking for you. But, is it so wrong to lean on others? Just a little? Is it so wrong to need other people?

[He looked down hunching his shoulders. To him it felt like every day Haruka was getting further and further away from him.]

Humans and youkai cannot coexist... Somehow you have managed to be the exception.

[He takes a long sip of his sake, before continuing.]

...In this world, it may be better not to need other people so much. They die, lose their memories, or return to their own world where they belong...

It puts to many things within reach, and makes it harder to know whether to take something or not for yourself.

The one left behind, suffers the most.

[His words came out soft, they really weren't meant to be heard, but they weren't being hidden either.

He really didn't know what to say, he understood those feelings, he had those feelings before here.

Finally, after a little bit of time he turned and held onto Haruka from the side, holding onto him almost like he was a life preserver.]

It's not so easy.

[Haruka said nothing, simply holding the cup in the one hand while his other pressed against the cold rooftop.

When Kantarou turned to hold onto him, the tengu gave a surprised grunt. He turned slightly, looking down at the little human with a faint blush.]

...

[He got over it slowly, but... he didn't push Kantarou off either.]

[Kantarou closed his eyes and didn't show any signs of letting go anytime soon. It was comforting to him being this close, solid warmth against him and one of the people he trusted the most.

He did say something, it was barely audible, hardly above a whisper.]

I won't leave you behind, I'll make sure there isn't a Haruka to be left.

[Haruka felt very awkward, and tried to focus his sight ahead and on on the little human holding onto him. Was the blush from the sake bringing the warmth to his cheeks or-...? He almost wanted to slip out of that grip somehow.

Instead, a hand was laid to rest on Kantarou's head.]

We should head back inside soon... It's getting late, and that will only make it colder.

[He looked up and smiled brightly.]

You're right! We don't want to get sick or anything.

[He removed his hand. Right, now there's just one more thing...]

First, you have to let go.

[He blinked a bit and then let go.]

Of course, heh.

Ne, Haruka. Tomorrow will be a new day, okay?

[The tengu let out an exasperated sigh, reaching up a hand to scratch through his hair. Was that really something he had to -tell- him to do?

The cheerful disposition of his master caused him to blink, but he couldn't help but be a little amused. A soft laugh escaped past his lips, followed by a smile.]

Yeah... You're right.

Then lets sleep, looking forward to what will be something new.

[He got up, picking up what was left of the sake with him.]
